Fashawn is a name you need to remember. We’ve featured this West Coast rhymer on the NBS before for his Nas reworking “CA State of Mind” – check it here, and this new tracks bangs just as hard. A lot of rappers today put out songs that just make them seem lazy, but Fashawn ‘s music never takes anything for granted – as heard in this track, this man raps with a great deal of fire and passion as if he genuinely has something to say to the world. “Santiago’s Revenge” will be featured on Fashawn’s upcoming Grizzly City 3 mixtape. Though it’s a bold, and possibly even a downright stupid, idea to rap over an iconic rap album like Nas’s Illmatic, Fashawn manages to pull it off. If you don’t know, Fashawn is a 21 year old hip-hop phenom out of a broken home in Fresno, California. After releasing his aptly-named debut album, Boy Meets World,  in 2009 Fashawn broke onto the hip hop scene with much force. Now, as we’re all anticipating his sophomore album, The Ecology, Fashawn throws out his latest mixtape, “Ode To Illmatic.” Now what this kid did well was to not change the beats or remix it, but instead truly paid respect to Nas by giving his best shot to those renowned instrumentals. Check out my personal favorite “CA State of Mind” down below and be sure to check out the rest of the mixtape and more from Fashawn here and here.
