To arrive at this song, an insanely catchy and ill hip-hop collaboration, it is important you understand the elements that make it a classic. Let’s start with the main ingredient, Big K.R.I.T., who originally released “Hometown Hero” (video here). Hailing from Mississippi, Big K.R.I.T. can’t avoid the inevitable comparisons to Southern hip-hop pioneer Pimp C, but refuses to let this define him – instead blazing his own blend of bass-heavy hip-hop thats impossible to dislike. You can download his latest mixtape here, and I promise you it’s worth the megabytes – the best Southern hip-hop I personally have heard in a long time – perhaps he truly is/will be a “King.Remembered.In.Time.” In the song featured below Big K.R.I.T.’s original verses remain – but sandwiched in between is a verse from another Southern hip-hop artists, Yelawolf, a verse he absolutely kills. Yelawolf, out of Alabama, has recently received a lot of hype due to his 2010 mixtape release Trunk Musik (download here), and has been captivating large crowds with his brilliant combination of rock and hip-hop at live shows. The two complement each other perfect and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the track. Big K.R.I.T. has just signed to Def Jam and Yelawolf has signed to Interscope and we eagerly await full album releases from the duo. Much nosebleed section respect to the Dirty South.
